IFS Course Description:

DA-20 IFS Aircraft

Initial Flight Screening (IFS) is the Air Force's initial pilot and Combat Systems Officer (CSO) flying screening and training course. IFS students must be undergraduate flying training (UFT) candidates and be medically qualified (Federal Aviation Administration Class III medical certificate and a USAF Flying Class 1/1A, as appropriate.)

CSO candidates are NOT required to have a FAA Class III medical certificate while at IFS. Reimbursement will not be provided by the Air Force.

Those who already possess a civilian license (private pilot, commercial, etc.) are still required to successfully complete IFS.

"The Air Force is not a social actions agency. It is not an employment agency. The Air Force exists to fight and win wars---that's our core expertise. It's what allows us to be called professionals. We're entrusted with the security of our nation. The tools of our trade are lethal, and we engage in operations that involve risk to human life and untold national treasures. Because of what we do our standards must be higher than those of society at large. The American public expects it of us and properly so. In the end, we earn respect and trust of the American people because of the integrity we demonstrate."
--General Ronald Fogleman, Former USAF Chief of Staff
